Multiple Shipments Per Order

Overview

The Multiple Shipments Per Order bundle enables splitting a single order into multiple shipments based on selected criteria—such as warehouse origin, shipping method restrictions (Shipping Classes), or destination address. These are configured based on the feature(s) selected. At checkout the order will show the different ship to address, warehouse, and shipping method selection for each shipment. The typical is for orders with multiple shipments to be split into child orders after being placed and these child orders imported into the ERP. If the ERP supports, the order with the multiple shipments/ship methods can be imported as a single order. Due to some of the additional set-up required for these features, this bundle does require Expert Help/Pro-services assistance. If credit cards are taken on the site the Expert will assist with how you want to handle credit card payments when orders are split.  Currently without addition customization a single credit card payment is applied to all the shipments.

This article covers the pieces that are common for the different options for splitting orders. These are the options for splitting orders. Specifics are available in the linked articles.

Split Order Process

When splitting orders by shipment into multiple orders before pushing to the ERP system, the system will be set to not push the parent order to the ERP. The customer placing the order will get a single order confirmation email for this parent order with the multiple shipments broken out. The end user will not get any additional messaging about the order splitting.

After the user places the order a system process (datamove) will run and create new orders for each shipment from the original order. These new orders will be linked to the parent order by field parent_order_id on the child order. After these orders are created, a second process will run to apply an order number to the new orders. The child orders will not show on the online orders page until this second process runs.

What a CRM Worker Sees

A CRM will see additional fields on the Online Orders page to show the different shipment values on the parent order and then after the child orders are created those orders, the parent order number, and the new order numbers
