Overview
This article provides an overview of the Configurable Retail Header Template introduced in release 2025.07 (internal tag 4.14). This feature allows administrators to control the structure and content of the Retail site header using a no-code, configuration-driven approach.
The configurable header replaces the need for many custom template overrides by allowing header elements to be managed directly within the customer site Design Settings.
What is the Configurable Retail Header?
The Configurable Retail Header is a flexible, template-driven header system that allows administrators to define up to five distinct header rows using configuration settings.
Each row is configured independently including options like showing versus hiding the row, content to display, colors, and menus to include. This allows for a wide range of layout and content combinations without requiring code changes.
How It Works
The Configurable Retail Header is managed through Customer Site Settings > Design > Retail Settings. Administrators can choose from the following options:
- Default = standard, retail template with fixed structure
- Configurable = new, no-code configurable retail template

When Configurable is selected, additional settings become available that allow administrators to:
-
Enable or disable individual header rows (Rows 1, 2, 4, and 5)
-
Select which navigation menus appear in each row
-
Define banner content using text or HTML
-
Configure colors and styling for banner rows
-
Control optional messaging content
-
Define how navigation menus behave (including category expansion)
-
Configure sticky header behavior (persistent navigation on scroll)
Header Structure
The configurable header supports up to five rows:

Row 1: Top Banner Bar (Optional)
- Displays a banner at the top of the site
- Supports:
- Custom text or HTML
- Text color
- Background color
- Can be enabled or disabled
Row 2: Utility Navigation Bar (Optional)
- Displays a selectable navigation menu
- Includes optional text content (e.g., phone number or message)
- Can be enabled or disabled
Row 3: Main Header (Always Present)
- Fixed header row containing core functionality:
- Logo
- Search
- Account access (Sign In / My Account)
- Cart (based on configuration)
Notes:
- Cart visibility depends on site configuration (e.g., public cart vs. login-required)
- This row remains persistent as part of the main header experience
Row 4: Primary Navigation Menu (Optional)
- Displays a navigation menu for site browsing
- Supports advanced category behavior:
- Can link directly to product categories
- Can automatically display nested category structures
- Optional configuration to display top-level categories with expanded subcategories
This allows users to quickly drill into product categories and browse the product catalog.
Row 5: Bottom Banner Bar (Optional)
- Displays an additional banner below the navigation
- Supports:
- Custom text or HTML
- Text color
- Background color
- Can be enabled or disabled
